Go Compare has raised more than a few eyebrows while raising plenty of laughs with its latest advertising campaign. The price comparison website is getting rid of the ‘loveable’ opera singer that has fronted its adverts since 2009 and has decided to do so in incredible style.
There will hardly be a person in Britain who won’t recognise the catchy Go Compare them tune or Gio Compario, the moustachioed tenor that features in them. The clips have topped several polls for the most annoying advertisements ever and Go Compare is playing on this with a series of TV and outdoor ads that send him out with a bang (literally).
The TV adverts started with a teaser campaign to encourage talkability before the full-length version, which sees sports personality and presenter Sue Barker blow Gio Compario up, was introduced to follow.
These ads come on the back of a series of graffiti-adorned billboards across the country that mocked the singer by covering the word Compare in Go Compare with slogans like ‘jump off a bridge’. Other defaced billboards say ‘just go’, ‘go and get another job’ and ‘go and get some singing lessons’.
A lot of people have slammed the campaign, but some think it’s a great way to say goodbye to the most irritating man in the advertising world. The posters and clips may also provide Go Compare an opportunity to appear sympathetic to their audience with the introduction of a brand new advertising campaign… soon we hope!
