With the current summer sunshine comes the increased desire to escape the indoors and move outdoors.
Hence why with the release of this summer’s Digital Trends report from Mintel, the growing trend for the using portable devices continues as consumers flee the confines of their four walls and their desktop computers.
According to the latest digital trends survey, penetration of desktop computers continues to slide, dropping by a further two per cent to 58 per cent since April 2014, while tablet ownership increases further, with over half of UK homes (51 per cent) now stating they own a tablet/portable device.
But tablets are not the only success story this quarter, as consumers are increasingly becoming far more mobile and interconnected in general. By 2020 Cisco has estimated there will be approximately 50 billion connected ‘things’, which is four times the number that could have been connected from 2010.
