MEC Manchester announces two new charities for 2013

This year MEC has decided to dedicate its time, energy and money to supporting two amazing charitable causes.

Katie’s Ski Tracks is a very small charity run by volunteers that takes terminally ill or disabled children skiing in Italy without parents or carers. For many of the children, it offers an experience they have never had before, and in some cases, they will sadly never have again.

The Oncology Ward at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is where some of the most poorly children are treated. As well as aiming to make the children’s stay as easy as possible, this money will help with research in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

At MEC, we don’t shy away from a challenge – so have set ourselves the objective of reaching £2,500 for each of these two charities in 2013. This sizeable sum will make a dramatic difference to the two causes and we’ve already been busy organising events to help reach it.

Should you have visited Bass Warehouse on April 19th, you might have witnessed the strange site of MEC staff in their PJs as part of a charity ‘Pyjama day’. But not all our fundraising efforts will be as relaxed. On May 26th, a quarter of the office will get up early, lace their trainers, don a sweatband and battle it out at the Manchester 10k.

Our 17-person team have been training hard in the cold and snow lately, so any support you can give would really help their legs over the finish line. As if that wasn’t energetic enough, we’re also organising a Ceilidh – that’s right Ceilidh. Details of this (and the now traditional Great MEC Bake Off) will follow in due course. So watch this space!
