December saw MEC get into its usual festive mood with several things happening in and out of the office. As it was our first Christmas at Bass Warehouse, we thought it was important to give it the full Santa’s grotto treatment – and as we’re a competitive lot, we decided to turn it into a competition.
Banks of desks across the floor were charged with the task of decorating their tables as best they could with a limited budget and an unlimited amount of imagination. The strategy department, which it turns out contains some of the most competitive people ever, were quick to get their baubles and tinsel up. It was a move that showed their dedication to the cause and made a statement of intent in terms of going for the all-out win.
However, as the deadline drew ever closer, the décor got ever more elaborate, with giant snowmen, fake snow, lights, hand-made paper chains and enough Christmas trees to carbon offset a flight for the whole office to visit Mr Claus himself in Lapland. A train set was spotted at one stage and the Strategy team went all traditional with a nativity scene that gave their ever-expanding set of decorations that final touch of class.
Judging the event was done by our very own MD, Mick Style, who decided that despite one table coming complete with its very own Santa (otherwise known as Jonathan Walsh) it would be the desk bank in Interaction packaged entirely in wrapping paper and rocking a collection of trees that would claim the spoils of the day. Needless to say, strategy were not amused.
The month also saw MEC host it’s very own festive Media Owner drinks reception. At this point, we’d like to extend a big thanks to those who came along – we hope you enjoyed the evening and will be back for more next year!
Finally, as it was the time of year, our Mediator team excelled in organising a Christmas party which will be difficult to forget. The inspired choice of the Imperial War Museum at MediaCity was selected for the venue and to make the night extra special, we were all decked out in military uniform and 1940-s inspired dress.
So with a New Year, brings new challenges – and no doubt a lot more for the people of MEC Manchester to get up to!
