A bit from the editor

A third of the way through the year we’re already beginning to see some trends emerging that will ultimately define how the rest of 2014 progresses and how it is looked back on in years to come.

For example, Mintel recently served up a series of predictions relating to how major events, such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil will impact both brands and consumers’ perception of them in general and further clues to the future of content marketing have been provided.

 In other news, MEC has been named the highest ranking media agency in the Sunday Times’ 100 Best Companies to Work For 2014. We’re delighted to be the most consistent media agency over the last four years!

And the time has also come to reveal the charities we’ve chosen to support this year, so read on to find out a little about them and much more besides.

BBC announces closure of BBC Three

The BBC confirmed that BBC Three, the 11-year-old youth-orientated channel, is to close in the autumn of 2015 and move to an online only channel in an attempt to reduce costs.The decision follows a speech given by director general Tony Hall earlier this month, in which he said "tough choices" would have to be made if the corporation was to meet its savings target.

2014: A Mintel Odyssey

Mintel very kindly came in to see us recently to reveal their predictions for the year ahead and they are, for want of a better word, frightening. Britain has had a number of successes in recent years and we’ve been experiencing what can be referred to as a period of “brand Britannia fever”. This has been driven by Olympic medals, Royal weddings and undoubtedly the birth of the royal baby, George.

2014 - Giving something back

We know how fortunate MEC is being named one of the top 100 companies to work for in the UK, so it’s really important for us to be active in giving something back to our communities. Like last year MEC have chosen two charities to support in 2014 following a round of nominations from individuals in the office. These charities are 'The Children's Society' and 'Brake.

MEC makes Times Top 100 for fourth consecutive year

The 14th annual ranking of UK companies was announced in the Sunday Times at the end of February. Namely, ‘The Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For 2014’ ranks and highlights the best of Britain’s motivated workforces. The publication release date has become a highly anticipated event in the MEC calendar. The news that MEC had achieved a position in the top 100 list for the fourth consecutive year was warmly received.
