With the Spring classics in full swing and the road cycling season upon us, MEC took the opportunity to invite clients, industry partners and colleagues to ‘blow away the cobwebs’ with a day’s riding round the hills and plains of Cheshire.

With fantastic organization from Haute Rouleurs, we covered 57 miles of varied terrain; from the near-verticle gradient of Mow Cop to the deer-filled serenity of Tatton Park. Our intrepid peloton were helped on our way with the guidance of three pro-riders; Chris Newton, Richard Lang and Craig Maclean, and the combination of motorcycle outriders, a mechanics vehicle and our own ‘team kit’ certainly helped the more occasional cyclists amongst us feel that little bit more like stage race veterans!

Those of us who got too carried away with the excitement of the peloton were swiftly brought back to earth by the sight of Mow Cop appearing in front of us – an epic ‘Killer Mile’ of 25% gradients (a snow storm at the top only added to the feeling that we’d ascended an alp). A swift cake and coffee stop allowed just enough time to get our breath back for the remaining 35 miles back to Knutsford and the comfort of a well-earned post-ride dinner and ‘recovery drinks’.
All in all, a great day of riding and an opportunity to chew the fat against a backdrop of the great outdoors of Cheshire. Our thanks go to Rich and the Haute Rouleurs team, and everyone who joined us on the day. Chapeau!
