The Independent launches 'i'

ShareTweet

On Tuesday 26th October, a new newspaper was launched that some have suggested is the most significant, high quality publication of its kind to be released in the last 25 years!

Created by the Independent, 'i' is now available every Monday - Friday and is designed for readers who want a concise, quality daily paper. Priced at just 20p, the newspaper will be distributed right across the UK, taking on both the tabloid and free markets.

MEC Opinion: First impressions are certainly good on this. 'i' has both distinctive look and a feel of real quality, which could very much capture the attention of readers.

The news and business matrix is a particular highlight, with easy-to-read colour coded sections and an innovative TV and weather page layout. It could be argued that this 20 minute read is perfect for the younger commuter audience, serving up digestible chunks covering all the day's key topics.

If people are happy to pay 20p for i, we could see this grown up version of free papers like the Metro do very well. We think the Indy could definitely be onto a winner.
